Tiles - MP1
This is my favorite tile because it is so different from the others and it was a nice surprise to the way it came out. I like the shapes of the circles and how they fit together. Also, the cracks on the top give it character and the element of line. The tile is has a focal point of the circle that is sideways; the eye is immediately drawn to it.
This tile is best glazed in my opinion, because the colors on it are well blended together. When I was glazing this, I wasn't really paying much attention to what I was doing so it was a surprise when it came out looking like that. I love how the color of the indents is silvery and it blended with the blue top to make some green. The lines of this tile really make it look different from all my other tiles and it adds to the blue at the top part of the tile. This tile is kind of unified, because fits together with itself. If I were to do this project again, I would definitely spend more time on my tiles instead of making most of them look awful.
My mug has a few elements of art in it, including line and color. The lines that make up the sprinkles in the doughnut are all different lengths and widths, while the different colors of the sprinkles create a contrast between the brown behind it. This piece in unbalanced with a plain color on the back and all the changing colors on the front. Also, the proportion of the handle to the whole mug makes the doughnut seem more important than the handle itself. I think this piece gives off a happy mood because it has so many colors and it is food. Overall, this whole mug was very successful even though it took a long time to make. However, if I had more time, another coat of glaze on some of the sprinkles would've increased the overall mug. The little handle is also really nice looking and I wouldn't change it.
Final Exam 2014
My favorite project this year was definitely the mugs. I enjoyed the challenge of making the donut and I loved the final result. In addition, I have received many compliments on it from a lot of people and it made me feel special. The other projects weren't as rewarding or nice looking as the mug I made.
The most valuable skill I learned in Ceramics class this year was creativity and freedom. In this class you can take the guidelines of a project and fly to the moon with it. You can make the most zany, wacky things that you can't find anywhere else, and you don't get that chance in most places. Having the ability to let your mind wander further is fabulous and I hope I can find more classes that allow me to do the same thing.
In ten years, I think I'll mostly remember the memories I made in this class. My ceramics art works are not as fond of memories as the ones I've made with my friends. It will be sad for this class to end and I hope that our friendships made here in Ceramics will be remembered ten years from now. I would hate to lose all the fun memories and I cannot wait for some more. Thanks for the great year!
